Gita - Chapter 1, Verse 9

anye cha bahavaḥ śhūrā
mad-arthe tyakta-jīvitāḥ
nānā-śhastra-praharaṇāḥ
sarve yuddha-viśhāradāḥ

Meaning :

"There are many other heroes, well equipped with weapons, who have staked their lives with me & all skilled in warfare"

Comment :

We could clearly see the level of Confidence that is rising in Duryodhana, through the words he has spoken. His mind which was unstable before, started to be stable as he goes on realizing about his strengths and has started to trust in them.

However, when he starts to mention that the army have staked their lives with himself, a suspicion rises as to his pride, also called the deadliest sin. While going through Mahabharata, we could understand that other heroes stood by the Kauravas mostly due to the respect they have for Bhishma & not to Duryodhana.

This shloka is an indirect indication to us that the level of Confidence beyond a certain limit shall result in pride & inevitably to failure. We have also heard that "Pride comes before a fall". This happens due to the reason that - When a person becomes prideful, he would not have any correcting thoughts about his weaknesses & as a result, the enemy would take advantage of these weaknesses & eventually win. So, Pride is Negative while Self-confidence up to a certain limit is a Positive.
