Meaning :
Then, Conchs, Drums, Trumpets and Horns were sounded together and as a result, it became a loud pandemonium.
Comment :
Bhishma marking a beginning to the war resulted in a boost of Confidence among the soldiers of the army. All of them, being from various races, started to make respective sounds using Conchs, Drums, Trumpets, Horns & other instruments, which resulted in an uproar, as per Sanjaya.
Through this shloka, we could see that Sanjaya was not interested in the greed of Kauravas & in the resulting war. So, he explains all the sounds of instruments as a pandemonium, i.e, to be wild and noisy or a disturbance. However, Sanjaya is said to be the best candidate for the explanation of events taking place at the Kurukshetra battle, as he doesn't mix up anything from his personal opinions.
